There is something magical or mystical about visiting these very old sites. Unlike visiting the ancient ruins in Europe, built by kings or wealthy men, these sites are simple and built by unskilled craftsmen using only the materials at hand. To me they are more magnificent than Greek temples built by learned men using materials brought from miles away. Then there is the mystery of why these people built them and then why they abandoned them.
